Red Beans and Rice and Vampires. Oh my!

Mr. Louisiana wanted to give me “a true New Orleans experience.” I’m pretty sure when I finish all fifty, this one will not be blurred in my mind.  I will definitely be able to remember where I went on a vampire tour!!  We started the evening with some local food.  I ordered the jambalaya and he had red beans and rice. I can’t say I was a big fan of either one, but his dating stories were entertaining enough to make me forget.

People who found their significant other young and without much work don’t know about the joys of internet dating.  You get matched up with someone who seems great -- you have things in common, their picture looks good . . . and then you actually meet up, face to face.

I’ve had some interesting internet match-ups, and I’m always ready to laugh at other people’s misfortunes, too.  Mr. Louisiana had some great stories.  I would give first runner up to the lady who for some reason decided not to meet him alone, but to bring along her best friend.  And her son.  And her ex-husband.  Hmmmm.  But she loses out, as far as making a crazy first impression goes, to the woman who, before they even met, was asking some pretty personal questions.  Like how much money he made.  And then, when they actually did meet (don’t ask me why he said yes -- I would have run for the hills), talked about her plans for their wedding, including which church it would be held in and where the reception would be.  I mean, yes, I’ve probably been guilty of a little daydreaming myself, but everyone knows you don’t say the M-word too early!  Men get scared and run away!  And on the first date?  That’s just plain psycho-sounding.

After dinner, we strolled over to the St. Louis Cathedral.  By day, it looks like your everyday ordinary cathedral.  At night, it was a little spooky, looming over us as we waited for the vampire tour to begin.  Rene, our tour guide, loves this vampire stuff, you can tell.  Me?  Not so much.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen a vampire movie in my life.  We wandered around the French Quarter and he pointed out buildings where historical vampires lived and different places where they filmed scenes from Interview with a Vampire.  People nodded their heads excitedly . . . I just smiled and tried not to shiver (it was freezing).  I may not believe in vampires, but this was creepy anyway.  I was pretty glad when we got to the end and Mr. Louisiana and I went to the Cafe Du Monde.  Beignets and hot chocolate are way more my style than hearing about dead people.
